Wicca

Who we are, what we do and why we do it

At best I will attempt to explain a very basic idea that for some of us has evolved into a life style. Many authors, much more experienced than I have different viewpoints as to what Wicca is, how to best practice it, and have written many books on the subject ranging from ritual and spell work to the on going discussion of whether we should wear clothes or not during rituals.

Well, I am not an author, yet, I am a simple witch, my grandmother was a witch and I have a sister that also practices. Well for my sister and I, Wicca has become a wonderful journey into a lifetime of fulfillment and spiritual awareness.

Wicca believes that there is both God and Goddess that we can and do communicate with the God/Goddess. We do this through rituals, meditations, spell work and our day to day life. It's not a difficult religion, we learn to awaken our senses to what is around us. Then we learn how to use what we see. It aids us in understanding where we are in this universe and our place in it.

We believe in Faery, a spirit guide, elemental energy, the list constantly grows as your awareness opens to the possibility, that all things are possible. Wicca acknowledges reincarnation, and embraces the idea of a higher plane of existence, that even there we have choices.

We consider ourselves moral, we have few "laws" but we believe that what ever we put forth returns to us "threefold" and that it is wrong to harm others as well as self. We utilize magick in our rituals and our daily lives. Its not spooky nor is it evil, our form of prayer is our spells and incantations. After all magick is natural and we embrace it with love. You see, Wicca is a religion of celebration of honoring what we have been given, it is a wondrous union with nature.

I know at this point you might be asking yourself ok, how do I get started. Well, I will do my best to guide you but you must do the work. You have to ask questions, read everything you can on the subject, learn of the many various groups, people and places that call themselves Wiccan, and then decide for yourself what is best for you! I can only guide you so far, I only know so much and what I believe in and do might not work for you, so before you become frustrated allow me to tell you what I believe and experienced and what I have learned. Meanwhile, PLEASE, read some of the wonderful books out there on the subject of Wicca and Witchcraft, go into the Internet and read what other people have experienced. After it is all said and done, you will come out far ahead of others, maybe a bit wiser and most certainly if you choose to accept it maybe that witch that resides in every human will pop out and you will come to understand what we are.

As far as who we are exactly, well that might surprise you. Doctors, lawyers, corporate leaders, so many people of various occupations have discovered Wicca. They might never talk about it, they probably won't enter into a discussion on what to bring to a church social, but we are out there, many more than you could possibly fathom. Why, you ask, why would such strong and independent thinkers choose to stay silent.

Well as you come to understand Wicca/Witchcraft it is choice and it is each individuals "choice" to either be silent, solitary, and radical or a member of a "coven" or group.

I can't speak for my sister and brothers of the craft. Much like the "Burning Times" we are still persecuted to some degree, even though it's the 21st century. Maybe even more so now as more and more people begin to rediscover themselves others become fearful of us, I simply do not have the answer.

I will say in closing, however, that Wicca is a journey of both the mind and the soul, DO NOT take us lightly because you will miss out on a fantastic adventure. Be careful who you trust, learn all you can, and keep your mind open to the possibilities. Wicca might not be for you, but in learning about us, your mind will expand to other wonderful places.

Finally, I must add. Why do we do it, why do we walk a path that is so "not" normal? I can't nor will I try to answer, because for each and every person that calls himself or herself a Wiccan and celebrates the mysteries it is a very private and personal question. I will tell you that for myself, Wicca/Witchcraft has opened my senses to a world beyond belief.

I hope that you will join us here at The Witchesattic and take from us what we have to offer. To allow us to give you a few laughs, a few tools and maybe a couple of thoughts to carry with you, we are not by any means the most knowledgeable, who is? What we hope to achieve is to help you in expanding your mind, and maybe in turn you can help others.

May the Lord and the Lady hold you gently between them as you travel a new and wondrous path.

Blessed Be

Lady Moira
